Conflict Minerals CM refers to metal minerals such as gold (Au), tantalum (Ta), tungsten (W), cobalt (Co), and tin (Sn) produced in conflict areas controlled by non-governmental military groups or non military factions in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The illegal mining profits obtained by local military groups are stolen from citizens and cause human rights violations and environmental degradation in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Most of the mining activities in these areas are related (funded) to armed groups involved in conflicts, leading to long-term instability in the region and hence being referred to as "conflict minerals" by the media. These metals may be widely used in information and communication technology products.
